Portsmouth Free Public Library will have some modifications made to the ramp at the entrance of the building. Construction is scheduled to start around March 1 weather permitting. The ramp will be replaced with a new one that will not ice up in cold wet weather. Also, a new sidewalk will start at the end of the ramp and go along the front of the building in front of the cars parked there. Library patrons walking in back of parked cars to get to our new parking lot were a real safety concern for us.
Due to the construction, programming will be suspended. Our temporary entrance will be the emergencey exit door right in the program room so there would be constant interruptions. Programming will resume following the construction project.
Another new thing already in progress is the relocation of the reference collection. Reference books were located near the public access computers but were separate from the rest of the non-fiction collection. We have begun to interfile the reference books with the non-fiction materials so that one stop shows all the items on that subject. We hope that this new arrangement will simplify everyone's informational needs. Let the reference staff know what you think!
